Terms of use
Effective November 1, 2026
Apple’s standard license agreement for apps governs your use of Pastwise. These terms add how Premium is billed and renewed, what to expect from the history in the app, and how to reach us.
1. Apple’s license agreement
Pastwise is an iPhone app published by FTP Travel LLC (“we”, “us”). Your use of the app is governed by Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Apple EULA”), at apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula.
These terms add to the Apple EULA. If the two conflict, the Apple EULA applies. By downloading or using Pastwise, you agree to both. You must be at least 13 years old to use Pastwise.
These terms are between you and FTP Travel LLC, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for Pastwise or its content.
2. Free and Premium
Pastwise is free to download. The free plan includes today’s On This Day story, to read or listen to, and the first lesson of every course. Premium adds every lesson in every course, listening to lessons, Review and earlier stories from the calendar.
Premium is sold as an auto-renewing subscription, yearly or monthly, or as Lifetime, a one-time purchase. The price, the length of each period and any free trial are shown in the app before you buy.
3. Subscriptions and free trials
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase. If your plan starts with a free trial, the first payment is charged when the trial ends.
- A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. Your Apple Account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
- A free trial becomes a paid subscription when it ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. Apple decides who can get a free trial. Usually it’s once per Apple Account.
- If you cancel during a free trial, Premium stays on until the trial ends.
- If you buy a subscription during a free trial, any unused part of the trial ends when the new subscription starts.
- If the price of your subscription changes, Apple tells you before the new price applies.
4. Managing and cancelling
To manage or cancel a subscription, open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions. You can also get there from Pastwise: go to Profile and tap Manage subscription.
Cancelling stops the next renewal. Premium stays on until the end of the period you’ve paid for. Deleting the app doesn’t cancel a subscription.
If you buy Lifetime while you have a subscription, cancel the subscription so you aren’t charged again.
5. Lifetime
Lifetime is a one-time purchase. It gives Premium on your Apple Account for as long as Pastwise is available, with nothing to renew.
6. Restoring purchases
If you reinstall Pastwise or move to a new iPhone, go to Profile and tap Restore purchases, signed in with the Apple Account you used to buy Premium.
7. Refunds
Apple handles all payments, so refunds are decided by Apple under its policies. After a paid purchase, Pastwise shows Request a refund in Profile. You can also ask Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We can’t issue refunds ourselves.
8. The history in Pastwise
Each lesson and story lists the sources it’s based on. History is often uncertain, though. Sources disagree, some details are disputed or unknown, and a short lesson has to leave things out. Pastwise may contain mistakes.
Use Pastwise for general learning and interest. Before you rely on a fact for anything important, such as school work or something you publish, check it in the sources. If you find a mistake, tell us: in a lesson, tap the ••• button, then Report a problem, or email support@pastwise.app.
History includes war, violence, death and other hard subjects. Pastwise covers them in words and in historical pictures, without graphic images.
9. Pictures, text and sharing
The paintings, photographs, maps and documents in Pastwise are public domain or CC0, and each one is credited in the app. The text of the lessons and stories, the design and the app belong to FTP Travel LLC.
You can share cards from Pastwise with the share button. Don’t copy the lessons or stories in bulk or publish them elsewhere.
10. Using Pastwise
Pastwise is for your personal, non-commercial use. Don’t try to get around Premium, and don’t copy, modify or reverse engineer the app except where the law allows it.
Sources link to other websites. We don’t control them and aren’t responsible for what they contain.
11. Changes
We may update Pastwise, including adding, changing or removing lessons, stories and features. We may also change these terms. If we do, we’ll post the new version here with a new effective date. If you keep using Pastwise after a change, the new terms apply to you.
12. Disclaimers and liability
Pastwise is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, including that the app will be free of errors or always available.
To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, and our total liability for any claim about Pastwise is limited to the amount you paid for Pastwise in the 12 months before the claim.
Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that can’t be changed by contract.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the U.S. state in which FTP Travel LLC is organized, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. This doesn’t remove consumer protections you have under the laws of the country where you live.
