Privacy policy
Effective November 1, 2026
Pastwise doesn’t collect personal data. The app has no accounts, ads or analytics, and your progress and settings stay on your iPhone.
We only receive information about you if you email us.
Who we are
Pastwise is published by FTP Travel LLC (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the Pastwise app for iPhone and this website, pastwise.app. If you have a question about it, email support@pastwise.app.
What stays on your iPhone
Pastwise stores these things on your iPhone so the app can work:
- Your progress: the lessons and stories you’ve finished, your streak, XP and daily goal, the facts saved from your lessons and when each one is due for review.
- Your settings, such as reminders and their time, topics, listening speed and haptics.
- Your answers to the questions when you first open the app, such as the topics you like, how you heard about Pastwise and your age range. You can skip any of them.
- A random code made the first time you open the app. Pastwise uses it to pick which version of some screens you see. It’s kept in your iPhone’s keychain, so it can stay after you delete the app.
- Copies of the pictures you’ve seen, so they don’t download again.
None of this is sent to us or to anyone else, and we can’t see it.
If you back up your iPhone with iCloud Backup or to a computer, the backup includes this data, as it does for your other apps. Apple or your computer stores those backups, not us.
To clear your progress, go to Profile and tap Reset progress. Deleting the app removes everything else, except the random code in the keychain.
If you email us
When you write to us, from Contact support or Report a problem in the app or from your own email, we receive your email address, your message and anything you attach. Emails started in the app include the app’s version number, and a problem report also names the lesson and card.
We use your email only to answer you and to fix problems you tell us about. We don’t add you to a mailing list, and we don’t share your email with anyone except the email services that deliver and store it for us. We delete support emails when we no longer need them to help you, and you can ask us to delete yours at any time.
Apple
Apple handles downloads, purchases, subscriptions and refunds. We don’t receive your name, email address or payment details. To check whether you have Premium, the app asks the App Store on your iPhone. Apple gives us sales reports, such as how many subscriptions started in each country, which don’t identify you.
If you’ve chosen to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone’s settings, Apple may also share crash reports and usage statistics with us. Apple collects these, not Pastwise, and they don’t identify you.
Apple’s privacy policy is at apple.com/legal/privacy.
Pictures from Wikimedia Commons
The pictures in Pastwise are downloaded from Wikimedia Commons, which the Wikimedia Foundation runs, at upload.wikimedia.org and thumb.wikimedia.org. When a picture loads, Wikimedia’s servers receive your IP address, the picture requested and the app’s name and version, along with the standard details any web request includes. Pastwise sends them nothing else.
The Wikimedia Foundation’s privacy policy is at foundation.wikimedia.org.
Reminders, narration, calendar and sharing
- Reminders are scheduled by the app on your iPhone. They don’t come from a server.
- Narration is spoken on your iPhone by the voices built into iOS.
- Add to Calendar opens Apple’s event screen, and you decide whether to save the event. Pastwise can’t read your calendar.
- When you share a card, the iOS share sheet sends it where you choose. A shared card includes a link to pastwise.app. If you tap Save Image, iOS asks whether Pastwise may add to your photo library. Pastwise can only add the card. It can’t see your photos.
- Links to sources and to this website open in Safari inside the app, or in your default browser. Other websites have their own privacy policies.
Tracking, ads and selling data
Pastwise doesn’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites, and it doesn’t show ads. We don’t sell or share personal information.
This website
pastwise.app is hosted by Cloudflare. When you visit, Cloudflare receives your IP address and browser details so it can deliver the pages. The pages load nothing from other websites, and we don’t set cookies or use analytics on this site.
Children
Pastwise is not directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child under 13 has emailed us, tell us at support@pastwise.app and we’ll delete the email.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including the European Union, the United Kingdom and California, you can ask what personal information we hold about you, get a copy, and have it corrected or deleted. The only personal information we can hold is email you’ve sent us. To ask, email support@pastwise.app.
We handle your emails because you asked us to answer them, which is our legitimate interest in helping you. We’re based in the United States, so that’s where your emails are handled. If you’re in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll post the new version here with a new effective date. If a future version of the app collects any data, this policy and the app’s privacy details on the App Store will say so before that version is released.
